HATCHERY BROOK CONSERVATION AREA, BERLIN CT

The nearly 150-acre Hatchery Brook Conservation Area features a winding watercourse, swamps and vernal pools, several ponds, traprock outcroppings, wildflowers, groves of stately trees, lichen-covered stone walLs, historic foundations and several pleasant viewing areas.

According to reviewers, the best place to hike in Hatchery Brook Conservation Area is Hatchery Brook Yellow and Blue Loop, This trail is 1.1 mi long with an elevation gain of 75 ft.

OSWEGATCHIE HILLS NATURE PRESERVE, NIANTIC CT

Comprised of more than 450 acres and miles of trails, this rocky outcrop along Niantic Bay is a gem. Well-maintained by a local group, this preserve includes evidence of a former quarry. Some of the trails are steep, but the website lists ways to maintain a more level walk if desired.
